How to arrive by bus:

In San Carlos hop on one of the buses which go to "Sábalos" or "Buena Vista". You will pay the ticket during the ride. Tell the assistant to stop at "Los Ranchos". The ride can be a bit bumpy depending on road conditions. For your orientation: When you arrive at the village "La Esperanza", there is about a 5 minutes ride left. A huge gate on the right with the letters "Grand River Lodge" will show you the entrance. Once you get off, just turn in to the dirt road (direction south to the river). After a 10 minute walk you will arrive at the cabins.

Last bus departure from San Carlos: 7 p.m.

How to arrive by boat:

Boats to El Castillo depart a few meters south from the bus terminal in San Carlos. When buying the ticket you have to tell that you will get off at "Grand River Lodge". After 1 to 1,5 hours scenic boat ride you arrive at a stone mole. From here it is 5 minutes walking uphill to the cabins.

Last boat departure from San Carlos: 4.30 p.m.

Taxis would also bring you from San Carlos to Grand River Lodge. The prices can vary between 1.000 and 1.500 Cordobas.

How to arrive by car / taxi:

Coming from Managua you don't have to enter San Carlos. At the roundabout called "la Argentina" you will take the second exit to "Las Azucenas". Follow the signs to "Las Azucenas" turning to the left after a 10 minute ride. From here follow the road to "Boca de Sábalos". When passing the village "La Esperanza" it is only 3 kilometers more to go. Where you see a few houses you turn into the dirt road to the right. A huge gate with the letters "Grand River Lodge" will tell, that you are right. You arrive at the cabins after one kilometer, where you can park your vehicle.

You don't need 4 by 4, but especially in rainy season we recommend a high tire level.
